Hi Lonny,
In the Clinical Practice book, page 466, bottom of the second paragraph on HP-5 you say, “ the heart protector can have a difficult time connecting to the essence of self and I in others” due to an absence of the “openness and receptivity engendered by metal”.
The next sentence, “In this case relationships tend to be chosen for their emotional appeal rather than for their essential value to us”.
Could you please flesh this out some? Can you provide a scenario, what this would look like? I get that “value” is the metal. With that absent or compromised, this leaves “emotional appeal” as a basis for relationship. So emotional appeal is less than? Diminished? What.....Thanks, Pam
Hi Pam,
The issue is that, if the heart is closed, contracted by pride (metal), the heat can build up in the form of unfulfilled desire. In this case their is an emotional intensity that the individual seeks to relieve through relationship, sex, etc. The relationship isn't chosen because of its righteousness, its essential value (metal), just to relieve tension. The object of one's desires tends to be objectified. One projects their own lack of connection to inner value and connection to essence on others to provide that for them.
Warmly, Lonny
